I Designed this course to help Adults navigate conversations with children when someone Important in their life has Cancer

Course Fee: $97.00 CAD

Updated: August 27, 2024

It can be difficult to know how to talk with children about someone in their life having cancer. In my own childhood, my family really struggled with this when my aunt, who had young children, was diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately, not much talking happened at all with her children nor the kids in the extended family. It was this situation that ultimately led me down a career path to become an oncology nurse and then a therapist with a focus on supporting kids and families when someone has a serious illness such as cancer.

In more recent years a significant body of literature has developed supporting open and honest conversations with children when there's a serious illness such as cancer in their lives. We now know that there are many common worries kids have when someone they care about has cancer including "will they be okay?" and "will I get it too?" Some kids even wonder if the cancer may be their fault. It can be a confusing and scary time for young people.

I designed this course to provide you with concrete strategies and approaches to help make this time less confusing and frightening for children. The approaches are relevant whether you are supporting children in your personal or professional life. The practical tips provided can be used immediately, allowing the children in your life to start benefiting from them right away. Please read below for more information about the course content.
